Alessandra Cireddu
Architect from the University of Cagliari (Sardinia), with a master’s degree in housing from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (Barcelona) and a Ph.D. in urbanism from the University of Guadalajara (Mexico). She currently serves as the National Director of the Architecture Program at Tecnológico de Monterrey (Mexico) and has been a research professor at the same institution since 2011.
She is a founding partner of the architecture firm EMA (Espacio Multicultural de Arquitectura), along with Carlos M. Hernández. Their projects have been published in national and international magazines and books, including Architectural Digest, Nya Rum, Área, and Arquine, among others. Their work was also recognized by the Jalisco Association of Architects with the Arquitectura Jalisco 2018 award.
An expert in housing and urban development, she has taught courses and given lectures at various national and international institutions and universities, including the University of Cagliari, the Association of Architects of Nuevo León (Monterrey), Ibero-American University, and Anáhuac University (Mexico City). She has also been a professor for the New Urban Agenda diploma course (UN-Habitat) and the Urban Managers course by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID). She was an invited speaker at the forum “Five Women Architects Whose Ideas Shape and Transform a Better City” (ENADII Woman, Puebla).
She actively collaborates with the 21st Century Housing Laboratory (UPC, Barcelona) and was the coordinator of the III International Congress on Sustainable Collective Housing in 2018, as well as the International Research Seminar “Building the Sustainable City with a Gender Perspective” in 2021. She is co-responsible for the project “Everyday Life as a Tool for Humanizing Cities”, an applied research study on housing and urban space, which received funding from the Science at the Frontier 2019 program by Mexico’s National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT).
Carlos M. Hernández
He obtained his degree in Architecture from ITESM, Guadalajara Campus, in 2003, studying his third year at the Polytechnic University of Turin, Italy (2001). In 2009, he earned a Master’s degree from the 21st Century Housing Laboratory at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia in Barcelona, with the thesis “Urban Recycling: From Industry to Housing.” In 2010, he completed a postgraduate program in Urban and Territorial Planning at the same university.
He has collaborated with various national and international architecture firms, including Archikubik (2002) in Barcelona, Spain; JC Name Arquitectos (2004-2007) in Guadalajara, Mexico; and the Barcelona Provincial Council (2009-2010) in Barcelona, Spain.
Since 2010, he has worked on multiple projects alongside Alessandra Cireddu, with whom he co-founded EMA (Espacio Multicultural de Arquitectura).
His projects have been featured in exhibitions such as the 1st International Congress on Sustainable Collective Housing in Barcelona. Alongside Alessandra Cireddu, he co-authored the chapter “Reflections on Housing and the City” in the book Vivienda Colectiva 1, coordinated by Graziano Brau and published by ARQUITONICA. He has also delivered lectures at various national and international universities.
In 2018, he was awarded the Arquitectura Jalisco Prize for architectural design in the single-family residence category (House Around a Pine) by the Jalisco Association of Architects. Since 2011, he has been a faculty professor at Tecnológico de Monterrey, Guadalajara Campus. He actively collaborates with the 21st Century Housing Master’s Program (directed by J.M. Montaner and Z. Muxí), where he has taught for its Mexican edition (Ibero-American University, Mexico City).
In 2018, he was co-director and coordinator of the III International Congress on Sustainable Collective Housing in Guadalajara. From 2015 to 2021, he served as Creative Chief and Director of the Public Space Projects Office at the Guadalajara City Hall.
